Why publishing product reviews in online shops is beneficial

Publishing product reviews in online shops is an effective way to increase customer trust in the shop and its products. They do this by reflecting customer satisfaction, but also showing honesty and transparency when they are less positive.

One of the goals of doing this is to reduce the number of order cancellations. Studies and testimonials suggest that this is indeed the case.

Product reviews provide additional product information that can help in the purchase decision process. They enable customers to better assess the features of products and thus make an easier decision for or against a purchase.

This is how product reviews are normally displayed in OXID eShop

In OXID eShop, customers have the option to rate their products immediately after purchase or receipt. This can be done either in the form of one to five stars or by adding a text with their own opinion.

The ratings are usually only displayed on the product's detail page by showing the number of stars, which gives a rough overview of the overall rating of the product, and the rating texts are displayed separately under the product description.

Improving the display of product ratings with our extension

With our software, the rating stars are also displayed on the category pages (product lists), manufacturer and search result pages. This not only gives a classy look, but also makes it easier for customers to see whether it is a product they might be interested in or not.

In this way, customers can select certain products that have already been rated and thus go into the product description with more confidence.

Since the product reviews usually have to be read far down on the page, they are also not easily overlooked this way, since the reference to the reviews has already been presented before the product is called up.
